Jasms Class ‘85 on Multiply

Posted by kongkong622 on November 28, 2007

I just created a multiply account for Jasms Class ‘85. I can’t finish everything tonight (or should I say morning??) but I will over the week-end. The pictures are just a rough draft, will fix it and hopefully add newer ones.

I tried to invite everyone on my address book and I think I bungled the first attempt so I apologize if you get more than one invitation from me through Multiply.

Again I don’t think the authors of this blog can write directly on multiply but if I’ve done everything right all the posts from this blog should be updated on the Multiply thingy (for want of a better name) but unfortunately the comments cannot be migrated. Please continue posting by email or by logging into blogger using your complete gmail address and password and from there clicking new post.

Really signing off this time.

Updates

Posted by kongkong622 on November 28, 2007

Please check-out the photo slide that Lynn made and posted on YouTube. Search for it under Jasms HS 85. Also, update your address books, and change Gilbert’s email address to: XXXXXX his old one is no longer active. <—– those who need Gilbert’s address pls email me at my yahoo address or text me.

We managed to catch Lynn as the witch on In The Woods and she was just great! She was wearing her witch half-mask when she first came out but I recognized her voice. It was fun because not all of us did. It was great to catch up with her again and we all hope to get together again soon. In the Woods is showing every Friday and Saturday. There’s still time to watch her until next weekend, December 8th.

Congratulations to Frailu and his wife Arlene on their second baby, Sofia Louise B. Santiago!! :)

Looks like Tagaytay will have to wait for now, the brainchild is having another case of selective amnesia so until I am ready to drive all the way there the girls will have to excuse me for now.

The next chance you get, you guys MUST go to Kuala Lumpur. The Petronas Towers against the night sky is just surreal. If you are into Malay and Indian food then those are added incentives.

I know how much our schedules clash and most of our classmates have families and getting away won’t be easy, but I am still hoping that one day we can all get together and do something away from the city for a few days.

Thats all for now, cheers to everyone.

Mamma Mia!! It’s Pizza Time!!

Posted by kongkong622 on November 27, 2007

Last Friday, the girls had a school fieldtrip to Pizza Hut. They were there to learn how to make pizza.

I have to hand it to my kids’ school for coming up with unique ways of learning. The pizza making activity turned out to be an art activity as well. The pizza sauce became their paint and the toppings became their decorations. Well, those were the other kids. My girls were too busy trying to get as much cheese as the pan could handle. They are avowed cheese lovers, obviously. One of the teachers had to ask Adi to stop nibbling on bits of cheese before the pizza was cooked.

When the pies were done, they had a rip-roaring time with their pizzas.

I volunteered to be a parent chaperone. It’s a good thing I did because look at what I caught…

That’s Marco. And I’m beginning to wonder what they put in his pizza because he was the ultimate kissing bandit after he devoured his pie. When I asked him why he kept kissing Gaby he said, “Because her cheeks are sooooo soft!” Awwww…..

We Had Turkey For Lunch

Posted by kongkong622 on November 23, 2007

I’ve never really understood the whole Thanksgiving tradition. I don’t think many Pinoys do, for that matter. Unless of course you happened to be raised in the US of A. But the whole food tradition that goes with Thanksgiving, well, that I can relate to. Why? Because it’s food. That’s all.
So yesterday when my sister’s mother-in-law graciously extended an invitation for a delicious Turkey lunch, I Rsvp’d faster than you can say giblets. I mean really…..turkey, stuffing, mashed potato, candied yams, gravy…I’d be a complete moron to even think about saying no.
As with Pinoy tradition, I asked my sister about what I could contribute. She just told me to bring fruits so I hurried over to the supermarket and got them a fruit basket with grapes, oranges, an apple, and a pear.
A little past noon, the girls and I arrived at my sister’s place. The turkey was happily sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be carved. The gravy was slowly being simmered on the stove. The stuffing was waiting for the candied yams. And my stomach was grumbling an octave higher than it should have. Bad manners.

In a minute or so, my BIL started carving the bird. All I could do was watch and wait even if I wanted to take a little bite. Just a teeny-weeny bite. Bad manners!! According to my BIL, carving a turkey (according to his buddy who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America) is like playing the violin. Your strokes should mimic the way you would play with the instrument. Whatever. Just as long as you get in on the plate, I’m fine with that.

Just before lunch was served we got a small lesson from my sister’s MIL about the history of Thanksgiving. She told us about how the pilgrims were having a difficult time in the early days and how the American Indians helped them till the land and, in effect, helped them survive the hard times. So the whole Thanksgiving tradition started there. They harvested their crops and slaughtered their animals to celebrate their survival.

At last, lunch was served. And I must say, I had every reason to be thankful for being invited as the food was delicious beyond words. The turkey was succulent, the stuffing very tasty, the mashed potatoes were so fluffy, and the gravy was just perfect. It was so good that Gaby almost choked on a piece of turkey because she was in such a hurry to finish everything on her plate. The candied yams were prepared by my sister and I kidded her that they were “sosyal na minatamis na kamote”. And they were!!

Dessert was “Apple Crisp ala Mode”. I wonder if my sister’s MIL read my mind because that is one of my favorite desserts this side of the planet. Honestly, I had 2 servings because I couldn’t help myself.

When we were done we heaved a sigh of relief and patted our bulging bellies. And after the table was cleared we all decided that this was one tradition that had to be continued in the years to come.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Love Pentagon

Posted by kongkong622 on November 20, 2007

Trouble is abrewing on the school front. You see, there are 2 blokes who have set their eyes on my little girl. Gaby is now at the center of a battle for affection between Marco (aka kid fashion model) and Apollo (aka son of a hardware magnate). I’ve been hearing rumors that the 2 boys have been fighting as to who gets to eat with her during snack time. Worse, a little bird whispered to me that both boys have been stealing quick kisses and hugs from my little girl during playtime!! I sort of caught them in action when I went to pick my kids up last week. I just didn’t mind it too much.
Anyway, the story doesn’t end there. There is a twist. Apparently, my other little girl, Adi, has a huge crush on Marco and has been bugging him too. Poor little Adi has not been successful in her attempt to even catch a bit of attention from the guy.

The other twist in the story is this, Gaby doesn’t like either of them. We’ve been egging her on choosing between Marco, the future TV news anchor and senator, or Apollo, the future construction tycoon. In jest we would say, “Si Apollo na lang kasi papatayuan ka ng magandang mansyon nyan.” or “Si Marco na lang kasi magiging Senador yan.” but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Why?

Gaby has chosen someone else. And this guy is way out their league. It used to be Gerald. Now she’s in love with Troy. And I mean, googly eyes and everything. So, apparently, there’s no contest.

Maybe Adi will get her shot soon :)

Si Among Ba Yan?

Posted by kongkong622 on November 19, 2007

Last Saturday, despite my bum stomach, we took the kids to Trinoma for lunch. We’ve been holding off going to the mall since the Glorietta bombing and the kids have been missing their Timezone sessions for so long.

We got there right before the lunch crowd started rolling in so we were still able to get a table at our favorite chinese noodle house, North Park. After a delicious lunch of mami and siopao it was time for Timezone. We spent a good 45 minutes there. My husband took charge of Adi, who wanted to enjoy the arcade rides. I took charge of Gaby who wanted to play some arcade games.

From Timezone it was our (Mama and Papa) turn for some fun. We headed to the computer and electronics section of the mall to browse around. I bought a couple of blank discs and I was looking for a router while my husband was scouting around for some good deals on cellphones.

On our way out of that place I noticed a familiar figure checking out some laptop accessories. I was pretty sure who it was but I wanted to make sure so I asked the fellow standing a few feet from him. “Si Among ba yan?”, I asked. “Yes, ma’am. Siya nga.”, he answered. And the rest is…..

I’ve been following Among’s trek to the gubernatorial seat of Pampanga with much curiosity. Being a staunch believer that faith and politics do not go hand in hand, his decision to enter the political arena did not sit very well with me. But, to be fair to the fellow, he decided to trade in his priestly vestments for a bush jacket and the rest is, shall we say, a first in Philippine political history. And he’s been doing a pretty decent job, if I may say so myself. His latest coup was when he exposed the infamous “Php500,000 in a paper bag” stunt of the palace.

But, hey, I wasn’t there to talk politics to the guy. I was just an over-my-head-in-adulation fan, bumbling with her camera phone, trying to get a photo-op and maybe throw in a few pleasantries if I could. And he was so nice about it. I told him that my husband’s family was from Pampanga and he engaged me in some “family” talk which was quite comforting. Then we took the picture and he asked to see my phone. Very nicely he asked, “Di ba iphone yan. Pwedeng pahiram?” And very nicely I lent it to him.

We exchanged some thoughts on the iphone before some other fan decided to take him away for another photo-op. And with a firm handshake and some hugs for the kids, that ended our encounter with Among.

My Wallet and A Blogging Tip

Posted by kongkong622 on November 16, 2007

I was tagged to do a couple of memes a while back and I haven’t had the chance to do them. Until today.
**********
The first tag came from Raqgold and it’s about the contents of my wallet.

Well, first of all, I’m not a very good wallet keeper. I also change my wallet every so often when I get tired of the way the old one looks. Or when I manage to dirty it up pretty good.

The last wallet I had was a pink and red fabric wallet which I got in Malaysia. My husband didn’t think it fit my personality too much so he got me a new one for my birthday. My present wallet is a black leather wallet from Mango. And it is big. Why? Take a look at what’s inside…

Actually, I had just cleaned out my wallet the day before so it doesn’t look half as bad as it was. Normally I keep some spare change, my credit cards, my ATM card, my SM Advantage and SM Prestige cards, my driver’s license, my voter’s ID, my Mother Teresa stampita, my 2 Timezone Powercards, and my Mercury Suki Card. In that picture I had some receipts and my ticket to Les Miserables. On a bad day I would have more receipts, some paper napkins, and even some pharmaceutical products (anti-allergy meds…mind you) inside. I transferred my calling cards, other calling cards, my Mcdonald’s card, my Jollibee card, and my village ID to another pouch in my bag. Otherwise, my wallet would pop.

***********

The next tag came from Rowena.
