THUNDERING WATER!!

Last weekend we flew to Buffalo to see the magnificent Niagara Falls. We were supposed to drive there but when I found out that it was going to take us around 10 hours I opted out. Chose to fly instead.

Our hotel was within walking distance from the park so immediately upon settling in we took off to see the falls. Having arrived late in the afternoon we didn’t have much to do so we just took our time acquainting ourselves with the place.

The following morning we headed out early to make the most of our day. We took in all the sights, sounds, and adventure to be had. We took the boat to the falls. Got wet. Watched the film, on Imax, about the history of Niagara which, by the way, means “Thundering Water” in the Native American tongue. We learned of the maiden Lelawala whose spirit guards the falls. The boat “Maid of the Mist” is named for her. We saw the mist coming from the Canadian side of the falls. We saw Canada across but didn’t crossover as we had no visa.

Au Revoir….so long

All my bags are packed…I’m ready to go…..well, not exactly. I don’t leave till Saturday so I haven’t even started packing yet. But, I am leaving. I’m going to be gone for 3 weeks. You read it right, 3 glorious weeks!!

So, start spreading the news….I’m leaving on Saturday!! I wanna be a part of it….woohoo…New York…New York!! Yip-yip-yipee!!

Well, this is actually my 4th honeymoon. My husband and I have made a pact that we should travel out of the country at least once a year. Previously, we’ve visited Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. This year it’s going to be the land of milk and honey and outlet shopping galore!!

Actually, we’ll be staying in New Jersey but the Big Apple is a short train ride away. So we fully intend to scour each and every cranny of New York City whenever we can. We also plan to visit other places like Boston and Washington. And if the funds are available, we plan to go upstate and see the magnificent Niagara Falls.

The last time we were in New York was in 1997. Exactly 10 years and 20 pounds ago. We weren’t even married then and I had a chaperone with me, my sister. We went in the fall and I remember how beautiful it was then. This year it’ll be the tail end of summer so the weather, according to CNN, will be quite comfortable.

What do we plan to do when we’re there? Anything and everything. Eat, sightsee, visit museums, watch a play (Les Mis with Lea Salonga, maybe), eat, shop, shop, shop!! And eat!! Ooooh, I can taste it now….pastrami sandwiches, cheesecakes, pizzas, and hotdogs in Times Square. And maybe we might run into Brangelina while we’re at it.

So, to you all, I bid a hasty farewell. Au revoir my friends.

Not to worry though, I’m taking my laptop with me so I’ll still be around. I’ll still be checking out all my fave blogs and maybe manage to post a few. After all, the house where we’ll be staying has just been wi-fied. Thank heavens for that.

PMN Fam Pics Series 2 : Potted

Potted….the theme for this month’s family picture submission really had me stumped. Instinctively, the first thing that came to mind was a plant in a pot. But I’m not a big plant person so I figured that would be too fake of me to submit that.

So I thought, potty. Great, I could submit photos of my kids while they were in the potty. I looked through our albums and I came up with nothing. In hindsight, how bad of me not to have taken any photos of my kids doing their potty training. Even for posterity’s sake. Tsk, tsk.

Then it hit me, I think my Mom had some photos stashed of me and my siblings doing the potty. Fantastic!! So, armed with my dust mask, off I went to my Moms “bodega” to search for the elusive “potted” picture.

Lo and behold, I came up with not 1 but 4 wonderful pictures of an era long gone.
