New Eyebrows

For the first time in my life, I had my eyebrows threaded. I’ve never had this done ever. I simply had them “bladed” by the Mader in the parlor.

Yesterday, I went for my regular footspa/pedicure pick-me-up. My suki was not around so I had to make do with another parlorista. When she was done, she very casually said, “Ma’am, ang kapal ng kilay niyo. Gusto niyo, i-threading ko?” This floored me!! I mean, people have said “Ang taas ng kilay mo!” but never “Ang kapal ng kilay mo!”

I was in no mood to tell her off so instead, I submitted my bushy brows to her deft fingers and her able string.

Boy, was I in for a surprise. Let me tell you, I have a very high threshold for pain. I can take the dentist’s drill invasion without even a drop of anesthesia. During my labor, I could even manage to pose for posterity shots because I could barely feel my contractions.

But this….hell, this was painful. Funny, the left brow was even more scream-inducing than the right.

But anyway….when all was said and done…I had a perfect set of brows. Never mind that I finished half a roll of toilet paper just wiping my tears away.

And at the end, the parlorista said, “Ma’am, wag niyo munang basain ng 30 minutes.“

After all that pain I had to shoot back, “Ay bakit, napapasma din pala ang kilay noh.” To that she could only say “Duh?”

The Crazies

I just felt like writing some of my kids’ latest antics, foibles, repartees, smarts, engots…whatever you want to call it.

Gaby : Mama can we play, name the fruits?
Me: Surely, me first. Apple!
Gaby : Banana!
Me : Orange, strawberry…..etc…….
Gaby : Rambutan, grapes……etc……..
Me : Blueberry, durian…..etc…..
Gaby : No more na…..there is pa pala….LECHON!

Papa: Adi, what day is it today?
Adi : MONDAY!
Papa : And then?
Adi : TUESDAY!
Papa : And then?
Adi : Aaah….CHRISTMAS DAY!!
Coming home from the mall one afternoon, Gaby startled both her Dad and me with this question…

Gaby : Papa, can we have another baby?
Papa : (Almost sideswiping the jeepney beside us) WHAAT?!?
Gaby : Can we have another baby? I want a boy.
Papa : Ask your Mama muna.
Gaby : Mama, please…I want another baby.
Me : Eh, Mama’s old na. And how can we make one, eh you’re always in the room with us.
(Snicker..snicker)
Gaby : Hmmph…I’ll ask Lola to go to SM to buy me a new baby na lang.
Me : Tell her to go when there’s a sale so it’s mura..Hehehe…..
Coming home from the pediatrician’s clinic…

Adi: (pretending to be the teacher) Teacher me..
Yaya: Sige ikaw si Teacher Jamie.
Adi: (roll call) Mama?
Me : Present!
Adi: Yaya Minda?
Yaya: Present!
Adi: Ate Arlene?
AA: Present!
Adi: Gaby?
Gaby: ABSENT!
Me: Huh, bakit ka absent?
Gaby: I’m sick di ba?

After a family dinner Gaby was playing with her Tito Timmy (my BIL and her first crush)….

Gaby : Tito Timmy, can we go to the room and play?
TT : Sure, but let’s go later because everyone is still here.
Adi : (Playing peek-a-boo with TT) BULAGA!!!
TT : BULAGA!!
Gaby : (Sits on TT’s lap and gives him a pleading face) Sige na, let’s play in the room na lang...
TT : In a while, Gab, and look Adi is playing pa.
Gaby : (Looks at Adi with her best “monster” face) TIYANAK!!
On seeing a TV commercial for a sanitary napkin…

Gaby : Mama, look…it’s your pampers!!!
Me : No baby they’re called napkins, not pampers.
Gaby : Mama, yuck!! That’s not for the mouth, that’s for your *bleep-bleep*!
